22 Arroba BCN S.A. is a private company
created an owned by the City of Barcelona, which has been set up to
oversee and manage the 22@ project. The object of the 22@ Barcelona
project is to transform 200 hectares of industrial land in Poblenou
into an innovative economic district, with leading edge infrastructure.
It is to offer over three million square meters of modern, flexible,
technological business space in the very centre of Today Poblenou is
one of the most dynamic parts of town. It represents an exceptional
central urban and metropolitan hub, and is strategically placed in
Eastern area of town, the part of Barcelona in which the most relevant
urban transformation is taking place.
22@ Barcelona is a perfect Testbed where innovative citizen-focused technologies and services can be tested with real users. The area is being increasingly being inhabited and visited by a wide variety of groups including entrepreneurs, businessmen, residents, senior citizens or students, all of whom are very much disposed to test the different services that local government may offer to advance toward a ‘thin-skinned city’. Successful results in 22@ Barcelona will then be extended to other areas of the city of Barcelona and to other European cities. 22@ BCN will apply 18.5 p-ms of effort to support the City Laboratory test-bed in the 22@ district and the associated sensor network.
